How to Care for Your Jewelry: A Simple Guide

How to Care for Your Jewelry

Good jewelry is meant to be worn — but it lasts longer with a little care. These small habits keep your pieces looking bright, smooth, and ready for the next moment.

1. Wipe after each wear

Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the surface of your ring or bracelet at the end of the day. This removes natural oils, lotion residue, and trace dust before they can build up.

2. Avoid prolonged water and chemicals

Take your jewelry off before swimming, showering, or cleaning with household products. Chlorine, salt water, and bleach are the three most common causes of dulling and tarnishing over time.

3. Store dry and separate

Moisture is the enemy of metal finishes. Keep your jewelry in a dry pouch or lined box, ideally with each piece separated so they don't scratch each other.

4. Clean gently, never aggressively

For a deeper clean, use lukewarm water with a small drop of mild soap. Soak briefly, rinse, and pat dry with a soft cloth. Avoid toothbrushes, alcohol, and ultrasonic cleaners unless your jeweler specifically recommends them.

5. Take off before activity

Workouts, gardening, heavy lifting, sleep — these are all moments to give your jewelry a rest. A ring that doesn't get caught or dented lasts far longer.

A little care, a long-lasting piece. That's the simple bargain.
